In conversation with curator Deborah Yasinsky, Duane Bailey-Castro, Linda Cunningham, and Michael G. Young will explore the power of photographic processes and how their work documents The Bronx using visual storytelling to amplify the lived experience of the borough and highlights key social issues. These artists practices are rooted in photographic processes and a deep engagement with the Bronx. Through documentary imagery, alternative techniques, and personal visual narratives, their work explores how photography can document community, memory, culture, and transformation within the borough. Though each artist approaches the medium differently, they share a commitment to capturing the lived experiences, histories, and evolving identity of the Bronx.Attendees will gain insight into how these artists turn photographic practice into a tool for storytelling, awareness, and connection. The conversation will focus on artistic process, visual storytelling, and the relationship between place and perception. The panel will also consider how the artists engage with local communities through teaching, organizing, mentorship, collaboration, and neighborhood-based cultural work, and how these forms of engagement extend and inform their artistic practices. Together, the artists will reflect on the ways creative practice can emerge from sustained attention to place, lived experience, and ongoing connection to the communities that shape the Bronx landscape. The program will include presentations of selected works and a panel discussion moderated by curator Deborah Yasinsky.

"description": "Founded by visionary community leaders in 1962, The Bronx Council on the Arts (BCA) is a pioneer in advancing cultural equity in The Bronx. From our early beginnings as a presenter of affordable arts programming in select Bronx neighborhoods, we have grown into a cultural hub that serves the entire creative ecosystem of the borough.  Our programs serve artists, the public, and the field at large by building connections, providing resources, and advocating for equitable practices. Then as now, we focus on supporting the work of underrepresented groups – especially artists of color, women, and members of the LGBTQ+ community. Through this lens we offer affordable programs for seniors and youth, and provide direct services to over 1,000 artists and 250 community-based arts groups each year."
